Mahgen grammar reference
Use the following rules to write valid mahgen syntax.
Basic suits and notation
- Use 1-9 for tile ranks.
- Use p/s/m/z suffixes for pin, sou, man, honors.
- Use 0 in suits as red five: 0p, 0s, 0m.
- You can abbreviate consecutive tiles sharing one suffix.

Honor tiles and special z tiles
- 1z-7z are East, South, West, North, White, Green, Red.
- 0z means tile back (often used for concealed kan).
- 8z and 9z are extended symbols supported by mahgen.

Spacing
- Use | to insert a visual gap of one-seventh tile width.
- Use multiple | characters for wider gaps.

Open meld modifiers
- Prefix _ rotates the next tile (called tile orientation).
- Prefix ^ marks the next tile as added-kan overlap.
- Prefix v marks red-five related added-kan overlap.
- v0 means lower tile is red; v5 means upper tile is red.

River mode differences
- In river mode, _ means riichi, ^ means tsumogiri, v means riichi tsumogiri.
- In river mode, | is not allowed.
- At most one riichi marker (_ or v) is allowed.
- Riichi does not automatically imply tsumogiri after it.
